Frequently Asked Questions?
Our FAQ section covers common questions about notarization and loan signings. If you need more information or don’t see your question here, please contact us for assistance and appointment availability.
Why do some documents need to be notarized?
Some documents need notarization to help prevent fraud and verify the signer’s identity. A notary confirms the signer’s identity, witnesses the signature, and ensures the document is signed willingly and knowingly.
What do I need to bring to a notary appointment?
You will need to bring the entire document, including all pages, to be notarized, along with a valid government-issued photo ID, such as a driver’s license, state ID, passport, or military ID. Do not sign the document beforehand unless instructed, as most must be signed in the presence of the notary.
Do I need to sign my document before meeting the notary?
No. Most documents must be signed in the presence of a notary so the notary can properly witness the signature. You can prefill addresses, contact information, check applicable boxes, and other entries, but you should not prefill dates and signatures.
What should I expect during my loan signing appointment?
During the appointment, the signing agent will guide you through the loan documents, indicate where signatures and initials are required, and notarize the required pages. The appointment usually lasts between 30 and 60 minutes, depending on the size of the loan package.
What do I need to bring to my loan signing appointment?
Please bring a valid government-issued photo ID that matches the name on your loan documents. Your lender or title company may also ask you to bring additional items, such as a cashier’s check or wire confirmation, if funds are required for closing.
What if I don’t have available witnesses?
Some documents require one or two witnesses in addition to the notary. If you don’t have witnesses available, you can ask the notary to help arrange qualified witnesses for your appointment, depending on availability, and an additional fee may apply.
Do you offer mobile notary services?
Yes. Mobile notary services let the notary travel to your home or another convenient location for your appointment. We can also meet at a local library, coffee shop, your workplace, or other public spot that fits your schedule, including during lunch breaks or after work hours.
What types of documents can be notarized online?
Many common documents can be notarized online, including affidavits, acknowledgments, powers of attorney, and certain legal or business forms. Documents that require in-person notarization or special witnessing requirements may need to be completed face-to-face.
